Sign My Cast

Last Friday morning I left with camera in hand to document all the fabulous things there were to share at the largest bridal show in the southeast. With over 200 vendors representing everything from cakes to gowns to limos I knew there would be tons to share.

Well a funny thing happened. I was helping my favorite florist set up her booth and lost my balance. A rush trip to the ER, 3 hours of surgery and 4 days in hospital I missed the show, Dang. It looked like it was going to be a good one too. That silly EMT wouldn’t stop for me to take pictures as he wheeled me out. Whatever was he thinking? Maybe that cantaloupe masquerading as my knee had something to do with it.

Yes it hurt!

Yes it hurt!

Any way, it would be great if you could sign my cast. OK, so I don’t have an actual cast, just an immobilizer but if you leave me a comment that works too. Send a little love to your wedding diva to help her heal.

I promise to post pictures of the show highlights as soon as I get them.

Blog Warming Party with Swag!

I have so much to celebrate here at the Dish! As you can see I have a shiny new home on the web. That’s only fitting since my subscriber base has broken 100 and kept on going. My readers are the best! Thank you all. Swag alert! Keep reading.

I hope you like the new digs. It’s a lot like the old home but just so much better. It’s easier for you to navigate and read and tons more functional on my end. Thanks to my partner Marc over at The Agency @ Think for all his hard work.

That’s one more thing I am thankful for. Launched in January, The Agency @ Think is the marketing arm of Think Like A Bride. In only seven months we have a nice little roster of clients developing and it’s keeping us all busy. So for all you industry professional types that are regular followers of the Dish be sure to check it out if you haven’t already.

Enough about me, back to my fabulous subscribers. By now you know me well enough to know I just couldn’t have a party with out swag! It is one of my favorite things after all. Double score when said swag is shiny and pretty and from one of my favorite jewelry designers.Tigerlilly Swag

I called dear friend of the Dish, Mandy Greenan, at Tigerlilly to invite her to the blog warming and she most certainly accepted! So to celebrate and thank my readers, one lucky follower will take home this fabulous piece from Mandy! This beautiful 20 strand silver tiara/necklace with pearls and Swarovski crystal can be yours. All you have to do is leave a comment and include a working email and Mandy and I will pick the winner next Thursday, August 14, 2008. Tell me what you like about the Dish in your comment. The winner will of course have to be willing to provide their snail mail so we can ship you your swag. Click here for the full description. (Yes you are reading that description right. We are giving away a $400 tiara because you really do mean that much to us)

Be sure and drop by Tigerlilly and check out all her fab things. Rumor has it that she is having a sale right now anyway. Shhhhhh, that’s just between friends. Oh and if the swag looks familiar that’s because it is. It’s the silver version of one of her pieces I bought myself. I hope the lucky winner loves hers as much as I do mine!

Thanks everyone for reading. I’ll see you tomorrow for Flower Friday.

Habitat for Humanity

Last Sunday just before the crack of dawn, they assembled. Groggy from weddings and parties the night before, the members of The Tennessee Wedding and Events Specialists Association traded their pearls and heels and other wedding day finery to don jeans and muddy work boots. Did I say muddy? Make that extremely muddy. They turned out in mass to pitch in on the build of a Habitat for Humanity house.

Each year TWESA picks a philanthropic cause to champion as a way to give back to our community. This year we chose Habitat and are we ever glad we did. It turned out to be one of the most rewarding experiences we have ever participated in.

We were involved in one of the biggest build days in Nashville history. There were sixteen houses going up simultaneously. TWESA managed to break a few records for build teams. We had the most participants show up for a build ever and we hung the cabinets in the kitchen in 90 minutes; usually a four hour task. Woo Hoo! What can you expect; we are after all a bunch of over-achievers.

Add to that the amazing job our caterers did. Now think about it, when you put the finger on some of the top caterers in the city to feed a hungry work crew they tend to go a bit over the top. So much so that we started inviting the work crews from the surrounding houses to join our feast. They thankfully accepted.

To really get the full picture, check out the images a couple of our photographers took for us. (Now you just knew these guys wouldn’t be able to leave their gear at home) Dave Pavol was our official photographer; you can view his images here. David Wright joined the mix. That is his image above and there are more on his blog.

If you are a member of a wedding related organization let me know about your philanthropic works. I’ll spread the word.

Dresses That Heal

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and even while you are shopping for your bridal finery you can help. Just look for the Compassion Collection hang tag.

Bridal designers are banding together to help support Dresses That Heal, Inc by doing what comes naturally, creating beautiful things. Dresses That Heal was started as a charity that auctioned off donated gowns to aid the Breast Cancer Recovery Fund. Rachael Rivard, founder of Dresses That Heal, Inc has taken it a step further and asked all her friends in the bridal industry to design a piece for their collection to be included in the Compassion Collection. The designers will then donate a portion of the proceed to Dresses That Heal, Inc
Breast Cancer Recovery Fund is all about helping those with breast cancer to become breast cancer survivors. This is a charity dedicated to recovery through the Infinite Boundaries program which hosts retreats created by survivors for survivors. Healing the mind and the spirit as the body heals.

Now you don’t have to wait for an auction date. Just look for the tag. To see a list of designers participating check out the DTH website.
